The Crow's Nest
I recognize I do start every Crow’s Nest with the same theme: Morning Walks. I justify this by stating early morning hours are the best part of each day for me. I love the quietness of life just before dawn. This morning my walk was glorious. A thick fog had settled in around town. The air was so fragrant from the lilacs and spirea in Adele Anderson’s yard. I “visited” with 3 baby doves that sat in the middle of the street and did not want to move. Edinburg is so tranquil at 5:30 am. I probably am the noisiest with my I-Pod Touch, my cell phone and my odometer. The only other movement I saw this morning was the tail lights of Ruth Hall’s vehicle as she headed out towards Hoople.
It has been almost a month since the last time I wrote. I apologize for such a lapse, but I do have a good excuse!! We returned last Sunday from an 11 day trip to Germany and surrounding countries. We took our kids---Kris, Dave and Mike and their spouses---Jason, Nadine and Lea with us. We lived in Germany for 4 plus years in the ‘70’s. Our kids were in grade school and middle school at the time. It was great fun looking at Germany through their “eyes”.
We had fun every single minute from early morning walks around villages (with cows wearing cowbells walking through the streets to pastures) to having coffee at 7 AM at the local backeri (bakery). I waited all day long for our evening meal. Schnitzel was my choice of entrée every night. Spargel (white asparagus) was still in season so Gasthaus’ had special menus for that wonderful delight. Each area had their own special breweries and wineries. We spent one night in the Castle Colmberg. What a delightful place to stay. After I booked it, son-in-law Jason discovered in Fodor’s travel book it was the number one castle to stay in within Germany. It was magical. Most of our time was spent in Bavaria and driving the Romantisch Strasse through the cities of Rothenburg o.d. Taber and Wurzburg. We also drove the autobahns where speed limits are non-existent. It was a fun, fun trip that I will forever remember. Chuck and I do go back to Germany as often as I can talk him in to it, but this trip was special with family along to experience everything we love about the country and for them to remember their past.
I do have a challenge for THE MEN OF THE TABLE OF KNOWLEDGE!! My challenge is: IF I BUY THEM, WILL YOU WEAR THEM!!!!????? Many of the “men of Europe” were attired in Capri pants------So I have a great idea for the “Table of Knowledge”. The “Table” can be on the cutting edge of fashion. They can lead the way in a whole new fashion concept. Larry, John, Chuck, Bob, Harold, David, LeRoy, Oscar, Mike and others could be trend-setters in wearing the latest fashion---CAPRI PANTS. What a fashion statement you guys could make. If you are willing to wear them I will be more than willing to purchase them for you. I do have a picture on this page to show you how great you all would look! I tried to get Chuck to try on a pair but he very stubbornly refused!!
The weather just does not seem to warm up. This is the first year I have had a bumper crop of radishes due to the coolness. I think we have had enough rain. I know all this moisture is making it hard for farmers to get their fieldwork done. Fortunately we have not been troubled by all the flooding that has taken place in Bismarck, Minot and other parts of North Dakota. This has been a “funny” spring.
Lindsey Fingarson fell from a grain bin a few weeks and broke his wrist in 2 places plus getting cut on the face. I understand Farm Aid came to help get his crops planted. I wish Lindsey a speedy recovery. Also, Chris Nygard got his hand in a grain auger. I hope Chris will be okay. Farms can be dangerous places at times. I do want to send a special hello to Roy Anderson. Everyone is thinking about you as you continue with more radiation treatments. You are in our prayers.
Happy Birthday to Katie (Monson) Knoblach and to Greg Hall (who will hit the big 6-0). Happy anniversary also to Greg and Ruth Hall who will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary the 26th! Have a great day and we will talk later.
